This agreement made and entered into this the thirteenth day of January one thousand eight hundred and sixty seven, between G. W. Hampton of the county of Jefferson, State of Florida, of the first part, and Burrill Ford, a freedman of the second part. Witnesseth that the said G. W. Hampton if the first part doth bargain and agree to him, the said Burrill Ford of the second part, for the year 1867 and to give him one third of all the makes viz. one third of the corn fodder, cotton and potatoes made and gathered by the 25th day of December, and in addition to this, the said G. W. Hampton promises to give the said party of the second part three-and-a-half [pounds] of meat per week and one peck of meal, and the said party of the second party promises to work by the directions of the said G. W. Hampton of the first part, and to use his utmost endeavors to cultivate will the land which may be assigned to him and to take his wife to do the hoe work needed in the cultivation of the said land. And, if the said Bumill Ford of the said second part shall lose any time unnecessarily, he shall pay to the said G. W. Hampton of the first part, at the rate of seventy-five cents per day, ⅔ of which shall go to Hampton and one third to said Fords, and if he should quit before the time for which he hired is out, he shall forfeit his whole years wages, unless he quits with permission of the said G. W. Hampton of the first part and the said party of the second part also promised to do any and all kinds of work which may be required of him about the plantation or promised

After the crop is laid by and should any difficulty rise in regard to the contract which cannot be adjusted by the parties, each party shall have the privilege of choosing one responsible and disinterested citizen who shall go before the agent of Bureau and who with the agent shall form a board to adjust said difference and whose award shall be final and conclusive.
