Agreement made and entered into this first day of January A.D. 1867, between James W. Hill of the first part, and the following named freed men & women: Charles Cloud, Ben Law, Tom Glover, Jerry Goodlet, Albert Cloud, Harclus [blank], Daniel Law, Dick Law, Pinkey Cloud, Edny & Caroline Cloud, Sarah Ann Goodlet, Sib Law, & Sarah Cloud, & Cinda Goodlet.
[Witnesseth], that the aforesaid freed men & women agree, & bind themselves to live with, & work for the aforesaid James W. Hill, for, & during the year eighteen hundred and sixty-seven. That they will labor faithfully & diligently. That they will obey all orders [emanating] from him, either personally, or through his agent. That they have hired to the said James W. Hill all of their time, & will not absent themselves from their work without [permission] from their said employer.
The aforesaid freed men & women agree and bind themselves to be respectful & obedient both to their employer & his agent. They further agree that in case of disobedience of [Crossed out word: his] orders, disrespect, or any other improper conduct on the part of the employees or any one of them, they shall be subject to [dismissal] or discharge from the employ of the aforesaid James W. Hill, at the discretion of said Hill.
