James W. Hill of the first part agrees & binds himself on or before the first day of January, 1868, to pay over to the aforesaid freed people of the second part, one third of all the crop which they make. He also agrees to feed them, allowing each one 3 lbs. of meat & 1 peck of meal or its equivalent per week. If the employees are absent from work from sickness or any other cause over 6 days, their rations shall cease, & for every lost day except in case of sickness or permission from their employer, they shall be charged at the discretion of the said James W.
