State of Florida County of Jefferson 18th March 1867 Agreement between Augustine Ward and Moses Forshey and Lewis Smith This agreement made and entered into this 18th day of March AD 1867 between Augustine Ward, party of the first part, and Moses Forshey and Lewis Smith, parties of the second part, witnesseth that the aforesaid Moses Forshey and Lewis Smith do hire themselves and Moses Forshey doth hire his son Samuel Forshey, a minor, to the said Augustine Ward as farm laborers for the year 1867, that they promise and bind themselves to work faithfully and honestly under the direction and supervision of said Augustine Ward at any work pertaining to the farm that she shall direct them to perform, working from sunrise till sundown and from Monday morning through Saturday night, with half an hour for breakfast and from one to two hours for dinner according to the season and condition of the crop. It is agreed that for every day lost by any laborer two dollars shall be deducted from his wages and for every half day one dollar and for every hour of assigned time fifty cents, said money so forfeited to be divided in the same proportion as the crops. It is further agreed that the laborers will obey the signal given by said Ward to go to work and to cease work. It is further agreed that said Augustine Ward shall pay to said laborers one half of the gross proceeds of the farm after paying the rent of the land, which is one third of the crops, the laborers feeding themselves, and paying said Ward for all advances made for them out of their portion of the crop.
