This agreement made and entered into this the first day of March, eighteen hundred and sixty-seven, between Lafayette Wooten of Jefferson County of the State of Florida of the first part and Simon Wooten, Abram Neely, Alfred Murphy, Redden Redick, Joseph Dallas, Robert Turner, Aaron [Reddick], Cary Smith, John Murphy, of the State and County above mentioned of the second part. Witnesseth that the said hirelings had agreed to enter into the service of the said Lafayette Wooten as hirelings and covenants and agrees to and with the said Lafayette Wooten that they will faithfully, honestly, and diligently obey all the wishes and commands of the said Lafayette Wooten for and during the space of one year from the first of March, eighteen hundred and sixty-seven, until the first day of January, eighteen hundred and sixty-eight, for the compensation of one third of all the crop made and gathered after deducting out enough sugar cane to plant two acres of land and it is agreed that the hirelings [are] to pay one third of the amount of the rented land in corn or in money at the option of Lafayette Wooten when it is gathered and it is further agreed that the above mentioned hirelings shall not take or [lose] any time for which they have agreed to work unless it meets the approbation of the said Lafayette Wooten and in the absence of the said Lafayette Wooten, Mr. E. B. Barrington shall have full control and management of all the business on said farm. And the said hirelings shall plant, cultivate, and house the crop strictly under the direction of the superintendent and it is also agreed that said hirelings shall do any kind of work which shall be required on or about the plantation.
