Dear Jim:
Please refer to our recent correspondence regarding the possibility of Koreshan Unity, Inc. conveying certain lands to the State of Florida for the establishment of a State Park. I have taken up this matter with Mr. Emmet L. Hill of the Florida Board of Parks and Historic Memorials and he suggests that the following steps be taken in the proposed conveyance of lands:
- That Koreshan Unity, Inc., or its legal representative, present a tentative proposal by letter to the Florida Board of Parks and Historic memorials, 201 West Park Avenue, Tallahassee, outlining its interest in the conveyance; the acreage involved; if possible, a map of the area, showing boundaries; any covenants desired; and any other pertinent information regarding the matter.
- The Florida Board of Parks and Historic Memorials will review the reasonable and legal aspects of the proposal and inspect the area to see if it is suitable for State Park purposes.
- If the lands are found to be suitable and the terms of conveyance are equitable, the Board will then indicate their desire to accept the property and enter into negotiations.
- All legal matters of the conveyance will be handled by the Attorney General of the State of Florida.
The Board has statutory authority to accept lands for Park purposes. It accepts lands in the name of the State of Florida for the use and benefit of the Florida Board of Parks and Historic memorials.
Mr. Hill indicated a great deal of interest in this proposal. A State Park is needed in Lee County and this seems to be an excellent opportunity for its establishment. Please call on him for assistance in this matter.
