This indenture witnesseth that Richard Hall of the County of Jefferson and State of Florida hath consented voluntarily and of his own free will and accord put and bound his daughter Caroline Hall aged about eight (8) years old apprentice to Hansford A. Cochran of the same county and state to learn the art, trade or profession of a seamstress, cook, washer and ironer or such as she may choose. And as an apprentice, to serve from this date for and during and until the said Caroline Hall shall arrive to the age of eighteen years, during all which time the said apprentice her master faithfully and honestly and industriously shall serve, his secrets keep, all lawful commands everywhere readily obey and at all times protect and preserve the goods and property of her master or his agent. And not to suffer or allow any to be injured or wasted, she shall not buy, sell, or traffic with her own goods, or the goods of others, nor be absent from her said master’s service day nor night without leave, and in all things behave herself as a faithful apprentice ought to do during the said time. And the said master shall use and employ the interests of his endeavors to teach, or cause her the said apprentice to be taught or instructed in whatever trade as above stated she may select, and also to teach her the elements of reading and writing.
