State of Florida Jefferson County This agreement made and entered into this the 26th day of June One thousand eight hundred and sixty six between William Lord of the one part and the after named freedmen of the other part, to wit, Jefferson Slater and his family Patricia Slater & their Jacob Bawken. 1st, We the said laborers agree to labor faithfully upon the farm and in connection with the farming interest of the said Wm. Lord from the 1st day of January, AD Eighteen hundred and sixty seven until the 24th day of December, doing such work after dark as has been customary on his place, such as shelling corn, making sugar, going for doctors, etc, and that the labor of all kinds is to be assigned us & all things connected with the farming interest to be controlled by the said Wm. Lord. We agree to take good care of the stock & farming implements, plantation and other property of every description on said farm. And we each agree to become responsible for all injury and losses when it is in any way attributable to our negligence or want of care on our part. That we nor either of us will use any of the mules or horses or any other plantation property for any other purpose other than attending to the interest

of the farm, and should any one of us fail to perform the duties assigned us, or a proper share thereof or behave improperly the party agrees to be discharged from the place [crossed out: without pay] and forfeit so much of his wages as a board of arbitration shall determine. We will not make or encourage unusual assemblages of freedmen upon the premises of the said employer. We further agree that a record of all lost time, either by sickness or otherwise, may be kept & a deduction shall be made for such lost time, according to the injury sustained by the farm for such loss, said money to be divided same as the crops. We agree and bind ourselves to make all the rails necessary for the repairs of said farm during this year, & to inspect, fix, & repair the fencing according to the necessity & by the direction of the said Wm. Lord. We have further agreed to cut & harvest all the oats sown by our employer, if they do not amount to over twelve acres. I, the said Wm. Lord for & and in consideration of a true and faithful performance of all and singular the before mentioned stipulations agree to pay them one third of the crop made by them, and to furnish the team necessary for the cultivation, & feed the same, to furnish plows, hoes, axes, etc. The said hands to feed themselves and do the labor & all provisions furnished them to be charged at the customary prices when sold.
