Articles of agreement and entered into this first day of January 1867 between C.S. Taylor of Jefferson County, State of Florida as proprietor and the hired hands on his plantation in said county and state, embracing rules and regulations for government, control, and management of the plantation for the year 1867. II. Ins [paper torn] The laborers on the place are to be remunerated at the end of the [paper torn] when the crop shall have been gathered, housed, [crossed out words - ginned, boiled or traded for meal or] - in produce in kind at the following rates: ⅓, one third, of the cotton, corn, potatoes, fodder, and ground peas and cane. 2nd Each laborer is to work 6 days in the week unless otherwise permitted by the proprietor and is to pay the [crossed out word - proprietor] for all [lost] time at the following rates to be deducted out of his or her pay or distributive share of the crop at the end of the year at the market value of the several products to which he or she may be entitled under this agreement. Each day lost or hauled away to be paid for at the rates of $1.00 one dollar per day to be divided as follows: ⅔ rds to said Taylor and the remainder to the hauler. Each [laborer] is to perform any kind of plantation work which the proprietor may direct at any time during the year that he may see proper to have done. In case any of the hands shall become negligent or refuse to work as a hand should work, the proprietor can discharge him or her from among them, with forfeiture of so much of his right [cross out words - of all] to the crop
