Articles of agreement and entered into this first day of January 1867 between C.S. Taylor of Jefferson County, State of Florida as proprietor and the hired hands on his plantation in said county and state, embracing rules and regulations for government, control, and management of the plantation for the year 1867. II. Ins [paper torn] The laborers on the place are to be remunerated at the end of the [paper torn] when the crop shall have been gathered, housed, [crossed out words - ginned, boiled or traded for meal or] - in produce in kind at the following rates: ⅓, one third, of the cotton, corn, potatoes, fodder, and ground peas and cane. 2nd Each laborer is to work 6 days in the week unless otherwise permitted by the proprietor and is to pay the [crossed out word - proprietor] for all [lost] time at the following rates to be deducted out of his or her pay or distributive share of the crop at the end of the year at the market value of the several products to which he or she may be entitled under this agreement. Each day lost or hauled away to be paid for at the rates of $1.00 one dollar per day to be divided as follows: ⅔ rds to said Taylor and the remainder to the hauler. Each [laborer] is to perform any kind of plantation work which the proprietor may direct at any time during the year that he may see proper to have done. In case any of the hands shall become negligent or refuse to work as a hand should work, the proprietor can discharge him or her from among them, with forfeiture of so much of his right [cross out words - of all] to the crop

[Crossed out version - which they have done and request the proprietor to hire others in their places.] 4th The proprietor is to furnish the land, mules, ploughs, hoes, axes, [wagons], and other farming implements necessary to carry on the work except the bagging and rope; the hands are to pay ⅓, one third, of the cost of bagging and rope necessary to pack the cotton; and is also to furnish [page torn] hands with one peck of meal per week. The hands are to [page torn - pay] the proprietor for this meal at the market price and it is further agreed that the hands and mules are to be fed from the joint corn and fodder, after it is made, until first of January 1868.
